Try as you might, there’s often no escaping the costs associated with getting married. However, there are many ways to make sure your wedding budget doesn’t spiral out of control. Here are our money-saving tips for your wedding.

Destination weddings

The latest craze when it comes to weddings is destination weddings. What sounds more idyllic than strolling along the beach with your friends and family around you? Not only can you get married in a sunny, scenic location, but you can also save money too. Many couples find themselves slashing the cost of their wedding bill in half thanks to hosting their weddings abroad. Often you’ll get much more value for your money on things like catering, venue-hiring and drinks costs. Think about how memorable weddings in Vietnam, The Bahamas or Mexico could be…

Second-hand dress

Some people will recoil in horror at the thought of donning a second-hand dress on their wedding day. However, it’s not as bad as you might think. Many brides, save a fortune with a second-hand dress. All that needs to be done is have it professionally cleaned, and perhaps altered to suit your body, but you are sure to pick up a bargain.

Create invitations yourself

If you or your partner have an artistic streak, take care of all your invitations yourselves. Don’t shell out to get a professional design made up. Create something that represents both yours and your partner’s personalities.

DIY Photo Booth

Many people are opting for photo booths to capture the fun vibe at their wedding. Hiring one out professionally can be quite pricey, but that’s not to say you can’t do it yourself. If you have an iPad or tablet, buy a cheap stand for it. Purchase some cheap costumes and props from your nearest costume shop. You will also need a selfie stick that comes with a clicker. Sync your iPad up to the selfie stick clicker and leave it in a corner of your reception room ready for people to have fun with.

Avoid Saturdays, if you can!

Saturday is the ideal day to get married on. No one needs to take any time off work to recover because they have all of Sunday to do so. And you can make a whole weekend out of your special day. However, because of its popularity, Saturday tends to be a more expensive day to get married on. You’ll be surprised by how much cheaper it is on a Friday or Sunday, or even mid-week!

Think again about flowers

Many people are shocked to find out how much flowers can end up setting you back for your wedding. If you’re only having flowers because you think it is traditional, think about whether it really is worth it. Another thing people do instead is to use artificial flowers. More and more people are opting to have fabric flowers instead of real ones. Not only are they cheaper, but you can also keep them as a memento of your special day.

Now the next step is to plan your honeymoon, but whatever you do, don’t leave without travel insurance.
