Being savvy and saving money does not mean that you need to penny pinch; it simply means that you are looking out for your future and the future of your children.

 Complain

Bought something recently and it hasn’t been as described? Why should you waste you hard earned cash on something that you are not entirely happy with? You should not and there is no reason why you should settle for less than your money’s worth.

Think before you buy

Give yourself a few days to think about making a purchase before you do. You will more than likely find that you do not really need that particular item, especially if you have a few days to think about it. Buying on impulse is fun, but you almost always regret it at a later stage. You may even find that you can get a better deal on the same item elsewhere and would not have been able to cash in on the deal if you had purchased it the first time round.

 Keep track of your finances

If you do not know how too, then it is time that you learn! Make sure that you know how to correctly balance your cheque book and make a conscious effort to know what money is going in and out of your account on a monthly basis. You need to check your bank balance on a regular basis to see exactly how much cash you have available to you.

 Count the pennies

You need to keep track of every penny that you spend for at least one month. You will be shocked to see what you are actually spending your money on and it is a great way to see where you can cut back. Knowing where all your money goes every month is the only way that you can see where you will be able to save money.

 Save every drop

Something as simple as saving the last drop of lemon juice will actually save you hundreds of pounds every year. Roll lemons and other citrus fruits on the counter top before you squeeze them. You will get a lot more juice from the fruit if you do it this way. Simple, but effective!

 Watch interest

Zero percent interest does not exist people! Wake up and smell the coffee. When you see an ad that advertises no interest, you need to know that it is actually worked into the cost of the item. You can get a cash discount, but you need to let the shop owner or manager know that you are entitled too it otherwise you will never get it.

Washing

If you are currently using washing powder to wash your clothes, then you may want to consider changing to liquid washing soap. You prolong the life of your cloths and make your money go further by using liquid instead of powder.

 Paint tins

Rather opt for small tins of paint, as you will not waste as much paint as when you use a big tin. Large tins of paint also tend to dry up quickly, which means that you are loosing a lot of what you paid for at the end of the day.

 Make use of your PC

Companies use their computers to aid them in keeping track of their finances and you can do the same thing. If you have a home computer, you have the perfect opportunity to use a spreadsheet to assist you with your monthly expenses. Spreadsheets are also great for remembering important dates and for keeping your most loved recipes safe and sound.

 Recycle

If you keep all the boxes, cardboard, glass and plastic containers from the food that you eat, you can actually get money back at the recycling centres. It may not be thousands, but every penny counts when you are looking to save cash.
